Objective

This article describes how to configure port mirroring for switches on Omada Controller.

Requirements

  • Omada Smart/ L2+/L3 series switches
  • Omada Controller (Software Controller/Hardware Controller/CBC, v5.9 and above)

Introduction

If you want to monitor and analyze a certain port of the switch, you can do it through the port mirroring function of the switch. The port mirroring function helps network administrators to monitor and analyze the traffic of specific ports, which helps to find and solve the problems in the network in time.

Configuration

Configure port mirroring using the Omada GUI

Step 1. Log in to Controller, go to Device, enter the private configurations of the target switch, go to Ports, and select the monitoring port.

The position to select the monitoring port on the Controller webpage.

Step 2. Enable Profile Overrides and switch Operation to Mirroring. Select one or more ports to monitor traffic. Click Apply to save the configuration.

The configuration of Ports, including Profile Overrides/operation/select ports.

Configure port mirroring using the CLI Template

Using the CLI Template allows for a more flexible configuration of port mirroring.

Step 1. Go to Settings >CLI Configuration >Device CLI and click Create New Device CLI Profile.

The position to create a new device CLI profile on the Controller webpage.

Step 2. Enter the Name and CLI of the CLI Template, then click Next. For example, the following CLI command indicates that port 1/0/3 mirrors port 1/0/1, and the mirrored traffic is the traffic received by port 1/0/1.

And there are three monitor modes: rx, tx and both.

monitor session 1 destination interface gigabitEthernet 1/0/3

monitor session 1 source interface gigabitEthernet 1/0/1 rx

An example for configuring port 1/0/3 mirrors port 1/0/1. Here, the Name is Port_mirroring, CLI fill in monitor session 1 destination interface gigabitEthernet 1/0/3 and monitor session 1 source interface gigabitEthernet 1/0/1 rx.

Step 3. Choose devices with the switch you want to configure, and click Save.

Choose a device with the switch you want to configure.

Click Apply and activate the CLI Template.

To activate the CLI Template, you just need to click Apply.

Conclusion
