Introduction

Recovery Mode provides a way to restore firmware on an Omada NVR or Camera when the device becomes unresponsive after a failed firmware upgrade or an unexpected power interruption. This article describes the symptoms that may indicate firmware corruption and provides step-by-step instructions for accessing the firmware recovery page and restoring the device to normal operation.

Requirements

  • Omada NVR
  • Omada Camera

Symptoms

If you experience the following symptoms with your Omada NVR/Camera, you may need to use recovery mode to recover the firmware:

  • The NVR cannot boot successfully. When connected to a monitor via HDMI, it may display a prompt to enter Recovery Mode.
  • The Camera doesn’t respond to any operations, such as device adding or video streaming via RTSP.

Recovery Steps

Step 1. Find a PC and assign a static IP address to it. The IP address needs to be in the 192.168.0.1/24 subnet and cannot be 192.168.0.60 or 192.168.0.240.

For example:

IP address: 192.168.0.100

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Manual network settings with IP address 192.168.0.100, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and default gateway 192.168.0.1.

Step 2. Power on the IPC or NVR.

Directly connect the Ethernet port of the PC to the Ethernet port of the IPC/NVR.

Note: Do not use a switch between NVR/IPC and PC.

Step 3. Open a web browser and enter the IP address in the address bar, then press 'enter'.

For Omada NVR, use http://192.168.0.240. For Omada Camera, use http://192.168.0.60.

This will take us to the firmware recovery page.

Step 4. Upload the correct official firmware file and upgrade.

You can obtain the official firmware from the TP-Link Omada Official Website.

Step 5. Omada NVR/Camera will reboot and restore normal operation within a few minutes.

Conclusion

You have now successfully entered recovery mode on the Omada NVR/Camera. Once the device finishes rebooting and comes back online, don't forget to revert your computer’s network settings back to automatic (DHCP) and plug everything back into your standard switch or router. If the device still won't respond, double-check that the downloaded firmware file matches your unit's exact model and hardware version.

QA

Q1: What should I do if the recovery page won’t load?

A1: Ensure your PC has a static IP address in the same subnet as the device, disconnect other connected networks such as your Wi-Fi connection, temporarily disable active VPN clients, and try Incognito mode.

Q2: Do I upload the downloaded .zip file directly to the recovery page?

A2: No. You must unzip or extract the downloaded folder on your computer first. The recovery page requires the extracted .bin firmware file.
