Download Videos from the Omada Guard App
Introduction
Video recordings are often required for incident investigation, evidence retention, compliance auditing, and operational troubleshooting. Omada Guard provides built-in video export capabilities that allow recorded footage to be downloaded from multiple locations within the platform, including Playback, Events, Smart Search, and the Omada Guard App.
This article describes the requirements for using the video download feature and explains how to export recordings through the available download methods in Omada Guard.
Requirements
Hardware requirements
Required
- Omada Fusion Pro Gateway.
- M.2 SSD for video storage
- Compatible Omada or VIGI IPC
Optional
- Omada NVR
- VIGI NVR
Note: NVRs are only required when recordings are configured to be stored and managed through an NVR. When Direct to Fusion Pro is used, recordings can be stored directly on the Fusion Pro Gateway.

Before Downloading Videos
Before video recordings can be downloaded, storage must be installed and initialized, and recording must be enabled for the required cameras.
Step 1. Install and Initialize Storage
Insert the eject pin into the release hole and gently press to eject the SSD tray.

Remove the tray, install and secure the SSD in the appropriate mounting position, and then reinsert the tray into the gateway.

Fusion Pro Gateways support the following M.2 SSD form factors:
|
Form Factor |
Dimensions |
|
2230 |
22 × 30 mm |
|
2242 |
22 × 42 mm |
|
2260 |
22 × 60 mm |
|
2280 |
22 × 80 mm |
|
22110 |
22 × 110 mm |
After the SSD is installed, log in to the Fusion management interface and initialize the SSD under Guard Config > Storage Management.

If an NVR has been adopted, recordings can also be stored and downloaded from the NVR.
Note: The download procedures described in this article apply to both Fusion Gateway and NVR deployments.
Note: To use the video download feature on an NVR, a properly installed storage device with recorded video data is required.
Step 2. Enable recording
Navigate to Recording and ensure recording is enabled for the required cameras.

Before downloading videos, ensure that:
- Recording has been enabled.
- Video data has been generated.
- The client device has sufficient available storage space.
- Network connectivity is stable.
For the best experience, use a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Step 3. Verify the recording storage location
Under Recording > Edit, configure the recording access method.
Access Mode can be configured as:
- Direct to Fusion Pro
- Via NVR

Note: Recordings are typically stored on the device that manages the IPC. If an IPC is managed by an NVR, recordings are stored on the NVR by default.
Download Videos
Omada Guard supports exporting recorded footage from Playback, Events, Smart Search, and the Omada Guard App. Depending on the recording source, video clips can be downloaded for offline viewing, evidence retention, archiving, and sharing.
Download Videos from Playback
Step 1. Navigate to Video > Playback.

Step 2. Click the Save icon in the lower-right corner and select Download.

Step 3. In the Cut Clip window, specify the Start Time and End Time for the video clip.

Step 4. Adjust the timeline view range from 10 minutes to 24 hours, if necessary, to more easily locate the desired recording period. After selecting the clip range, click Save Clip to start the export task.
Note: Changing the timeline view range affects only the timeline display and does not change the selected clip duration.

Step 5. Monitor the export progress from the task list in the upper-right corner of the page.

Once the export is complete, the task status changes to Success. The exported recording can then be downloaded as an MP4 file.
Note: Exported recordings use H.265 (HEVC) encoding. Playback may require a media player that supports H.265 decoding, such as VLC Media Player. Some built-in operating system media players may require additional codecs or extensions.

Alternatively, recordings can be downloaded directly from the Event List displayed on the right side of the Playback page.

Download Videos from Events
The Events page allows recordings associated with specific events to be quickly located and exported.
Step 1. Navigate to Events.

Step 2. Use the available filters to locate the desired event records. Events can be filtered by:
- Time range
- Camera
- Event type
You can filter events that occurred within a specific time range:

You can filter events by selecting one or more camera devices.

You can filter events by selecting one or more event types.

Step 3. To view and download the recording associated with an event, click the event thumbnail. The corresponding playback recording opens automatically. After verifying the footage, click Save to export the recording.

To export multiple event recordings simultaneously, select the desired events and click Batch Download Video.

Export progress can be monitored from the task list. Once processing is complete, the exported recordings can be downloaded for local storage or archiving.

Download Videos from Smart Search Results
Smart Search uses AI-powered video analysis to categorize recordings into Human Files, Vehicle Files, and Event Files, helping quickly locate relevant footage based on detected objects, attributes, and events.
Note: Smart Search is supported only on compatible devices and requires a supported NVR. Refer to the Device Compatibility List to verify supported camera and NVR models.

Step 1. Navigate to Smart Search and perform a search using the desired criteria.
Step 2. Click a video thumbnail to view the recording details, then select Download.

Step 3. To export multiple recordings simultaneously, select multiple search results and start a batch download.

Download Videos from the Omada Guard App
Video recordings can also be exported directly from the Omada Guard App.
Step 1. Log in to the Omada Guard App, select the desired IPC, and access the device details page.

Step 2. Tap the Download icon and select one of the following options:
- Download This Clip: Export the currently selected recording.
- Batch Download: Export multiple recordings simultaneously.
- Custom Download: Export recordings within a specified time range.
Download This Clip
Tap the Download icon and seflect Download This Clip.

Batch Download
Select Batch Download, choose the desired recordings, and tap Download.

Custom Download
Select Custom Download, adjust the timeline to specify the desired recording period, and then tap Download.

The status of download tasks can be viewed in the Download Center.

Conclusion
Omada Guard provides flexible options for exporting recorded footage based on different surveillance management scenarios. Recordings can be downloaded from Playback for a specific time range, from Events for event-related footage, from Smart Search results for AI-assisted searches, or directly from the Omada Guard App for mobile access.
By selecting the most appropriate download method, recorded footage can be efficiently retrieved, archived, and shared, helping simplify video management and accelerate access to important surveillance recordings.

QA
Q1: What is the difference between downloading recordings via Cloud Access and downloading recordings locally?
A1: Recordings can be downloaded either through local access or Cloud Access.
When downloading locally, the video data is transferred directly within the local network, which generally provides better stability and faster download speeds.
In contrast, Cloud Access downloads rely on cloud-based video relay transmission between the gateway and the remote client.
As a result, the download process is more dependent on Internet quality, including bandwidth, latency, and connection stability. In environments with poor network conditions, Cloud Access downloads may take longer or occasionally fail.
Therefore, we recommend using local access whenever possible, especially for large files or long recording periods, while Cloud Access is better suited for downloading shorter event recordings or quickly retrieving specific footage remotely.
